[Mechanic No. 4]

Hi guys, hope you can help me. Took my '67 4 core radiator to the radiator shop for a cleaning and check over. Yesterday they called and said that they lost the core and only have the tanks. They will replace the core but need to know the size (15 1/2" or 17 1/2" high). Can anyone measure the height of their radiator and let me know? My car is an H.O., non A/C car. Thanks in advance for your help!

Non A/C cars are 15 1/2 .
How did they lose your core? That sounds a little suspicious.

Mechanic, tell them you want an SLK 3 row core with 56 tubes in each row. I quarantee your car will stay cool with it. No joke. I had one put in with the original tanks and I love it. Engeine temp stay at 180 except for a very long redlight on a very hot day. Then it only goes up to 190 to 195 and comes back down to 180 as soon as you move. Use a high flow thermostat and Water Wetter too.... they help too. Plus, at a glance no one will tell it's not an original core. Unless they stick their head in there and count the tubes.

Your car might have the A/C core support in it, the heavy-duty radiators were fitted to the taller A/C-style core.

If the bottom of the core support is squared-off like a box and will 'hold water' your radiator will have a 17-1/2" core.

If it looks like an upside-down channel with rounded bottom corners, you need the 15-1/2" core.

Thanks Guys! My support looks like b-mans. So it must be a 15 1/2" core. GT182, where would I find a SKL 3 row core? Would it be far superior to the factory 4 row? Thanks again guys!

Besides being new the SLK is still a 3 row. You'd have to count the tubes in a 4 row to see if it's more or less than the total of 168 for the SLK. The SLK has 168 tubes to be equal to a 4 row. Plus many many more fins.

A guy judged my car at a show this past fall and he never knew it was a recored radiator. He asked if I'd done anything to it after seeing new paint on it. So, I said "nope just painted it. I didn't want to pull it out to wash it so I painted it. Here's yer sign." Never fazed him a bit. LOL

Mechanic No. 4, sorry it took so long to get back to you. I just happened to catch the guy that did my recore and asked him who makes them. He really didn't want to say but I got it out of him after awhile.

I will measure mine...... I could swear all HO/RA cars had the bigger core..... Mine is also a HO NON-A/C car...

My car is a factory H.O. car and it had a four core (15 1/2"). www.mark7radiators.com (989) 922-7335 will also buid you a superior radiator for your car in aluminum, anodized in any color as well. This shop used my original Harrison four core as a templet to build a factory looking duplicate in aluminum so it is very accurate. Take the time to see what they have to offer. Mark 7 cores are two rows of 1 1/4 each which equals a five row radiator in the factory size package.
