[Zappa's 68]

I purchased all the components for replacing the timing chain cover and converting to an 11 bolt water pump from the 8 bolt style. (68 GTO 400). Side note, just got the motor back and it dyno'd at 356 HP and 455 ft. lbs. of torque....man I can't wait to get it back in the car....but I digress. The water pump pulley that was required interferes with the crank pulley. They are both 8" diameter. It's an AC and power steering car......What do I need to do.....is there a smaller pulley for either the water pump or crank....

This is the water pump pulley you have. They made a few different timing covers. The big pulley does not work on some of them.

Sorry, I'm sort of old school, the thing is about 30+ years ago on my first trip to europe (without my parents saying I was going). I bought a very expensive camera and lenses. I continue to use these today because they work very well for me even though film development is getting harder to find. It kind of pisses me off that people spend good dollars on equipment and hardware only to find out later they can't get parts because someone has deemed your system obsolete. Think of the poor people with hundreds of tapes in a video library with no replacement machines for them. Thank God this hasen't happened in the auto restoration field. Long story short is I do not have any digital images to send you.
FYI: U-47 is a famous WW11 Type V111 ocean going German submarine commanded by Gunther Prien whos was known as the Bull of Scapa Flow.

There's much more to this than "big or small" pulleys! If you're running an 11 bolt timing cover on a 68 with 68 PS bracket/pump than you must use a late 69 or 70 WP pulley for the alignment to be correct. You'll also need to replace the 68 front alternator strap with a 69. You can get away with the 68 but it won't run in the same arc as the rear bracket that comes off the intake. A drill, torch and vice can solve that as a 68 bracket can be cut off, redrilled and recurved to become a 69 bracket. I've posted the matching setups between timing covers, pulleys and brackets a few times, I'll have to dig back through my posts to connect a link.

11 bolt timing cover, 68 power steering pump, 65 6 cylinder power steering and alternator pulleys, 1970 alternator top bracket. It all lines up except for the inner alternator groove. I can run duel belts on the power steering pump or none at all.
