I ran accross a 96 gtp that needs some engine work. Im guessing it has a 3.4.
car has 200,000 miles on it. From talking to the guy on the phone it has a head gasket leak and does have knock. I know nothing about 3.4engines but was wondering if you can swap a 3.8 into it without much trouble? I have not seen the car yet but it has new tires, brakes alternater. Probably be better to just fix the 3.4. Hes asking 600.00 I dont know what these cars are going for these days.I have only seen pics so far. Any imput would helpful. Thanks In advance. Don. |

I had a 96 GTP for a while. Bought it new. Car ran like a scalded dog but the developed a stalling condition where the car would just shut down. Had GM buy the car back. As a side note, none of the technicians wanted to work on the car because on the 3.4 quad cam engine. Also know that you must pay attention to the cam belt. As far as changing to a 3.8 liter. I dont think the sub frame will accept that motor.

'96 Grand Prixs are the FWD, W-Body. RWD G-body was until 1987.
