I have a ZH code(355 4 pinion posi) nodular 10 bolt posi. Casting number is 9793235. The rear has 433 gears in it. The gears are GM. The posi is the 4 pinion style. Would anyone know the application for this rear. I fgure 68 GTO, but what engines would need this rear. I would like to find a new home for this rear end, but I am not sure what the going rate is. Any information appreciated. Thanks!

OK... I'm calling you out on this one! He asked what it would be worth and we are treating it as a for sale add.
You have three different items of value here if separated... The gears, the unit and the housing. I have purchased '.33's for 60.00 at a swap meet and have seen them as high as 300.00 on e-rape. The unit's will bring anywhere from 200.00 to 400.00 depending upon seller and condition. The housing is worth about the same. I would say what you have is worth around four hundred on the low side and maybe as high as eight hundred if everything is nice.

A few more items that might be considered in the package for value would be; the pinion yoke, axles, and brakes. Further, if the axle is assembled there would be the cost of axle bearings, carrier bearings, and pinion bearings, as well as misc. hardware. Also if the assembly was done correctly there would be some value for time and specialized tool usage considered in the total value of such a rear.
I suggest shopping online for comparable rear axles for sale. Places to look might be e-bay or other rear axle builders and remanufacturers The ZH code according to the restoration guide would be 3:55 safe-t-track with metallic brakes. The 3:55 rear would have been standard usage with four speed, optional with other drive trains. The HD Safety Track was an option in that rear as well. I have found that rear used in GTO’s with standard 400 engine, as well as 350 cu in. Lemans. |
