Default 69 convertible rear speaker option/install..

I posted this a few years ago and now after being lazy for three years I'm finally going to do it. I had my original radio rebuilt recently and time to get it correct like the rest of the car.

Here is the old post-

Any pics of the install or an original? North had posted the exact steps to do it and I was also wondering does the speaker need to go into an enclosure? If so I will see how it fits in the 67 enclosure which is reproduced. I have the speaker cover already.

Cutting into the top well bag sounds painful but if thats the way it has to be then so be it.

I installed aftermarket stereo speakers in the well of my '68 convertible. Cutting the well bag definitely caused a knot in my throat but it worked fine. First reach in thru the trunk under the bag and test fit your speaker(s) in the opening behind the rear seat. My aftermarket speakers were a little to large to fit flush against the metal framing and would not fit into the hole to access the space between the seat and the rear framing. I had to use some plastic speaker mounting plates to move the speakers to the rear. I spread the bag flat over the speaker holes and used an exacto knife to cut the opening. Be careful when you open the top for the first time that the top frame does not contact the speaker cover. I also had to move my convertible pump hoes a little to clear everything. My install was of course not original as it's just a driver car. Yours may not be an issue if stock.
