Default Header Question

Will headers from a 1965 GTO fit in a 1968 Lemans? I believe they are both "A" bodies, but can't remember.

They are both a-bodies, yes. but the frame dimensions are slightly different... I don't know exactly where at though.

65-67 had the same frame, I think. (maybe 64 too, I'm not as familiar with those earlier models). Changed in 68; The frames from 68-72 are all pretty much the same.

that probably doesn't help you much does it...

It depends on the brand of header. You need to look in a catalog for that brand of header. Some are for 64-65. Others might be for 64-72. The only other way to know is to try to install them.

From my personal installs I found that generally a header from a 64-67 A-body will fit a 68-72 A-body. The 64-67 have a little less room around the top A-arms on top. They have a curved transition going from the side rails of the frame to the cradle or X-member under the motor. Which takes up needed room in those areas.

The 68-72 have an almost 90 degree transition where the cradle meets the side rails.

So from what I have learned over the years is a set for 68-72 usually wont fit in those areas on a 64-67. I haven’t come across a set yet that of 64-67 that didn’t fit the 68-72. There may be some that don’t but I’ve never seen it yet.

I did just learn from another member hear about a week ago that the 455 70’-72’ A-bodys have longer frame motor mounts that hang about 2” off the back of the frame. So I personally don’t know in that situation.
