I'm reinstalling the gauges and bezel in my 68 GTO and am now putting the maplight in. When I bought the car the map light came in a box with other misc. parts and I never attempted to install it until now. The light has 2 terminals but ther is only one wire (yellow/orange w/ black stripe) in the area where the light mounts. And, im not sure that that wire is for the light or not.

The light will use the orange wire on the terminal that does not ground (the non lever/switched side, RH terminal). Some dash looms have an extra white wire that will connect to the map light too on the ground side terminal (LH Terminal). The white wire will then go back to the headlamp switch. The light will then come on with the doors open or by turning the headlamp switch to the left to turn the dome lamp on. You can also use the map light to turn on the dome lamp! Scott

The headlight switch could be bad, or just not getting a good ground. I'm going from memory, I'd have to dig out all my old looms, but a white extension wire connects to the short one behind the headlamp switch and it goes back over to the map light and connects to it like I described earlier, Scott
