Default Sweet 1st Gen on Cover of HPP w/Northwind

In the latest copy of HPP I saw a very nicely built 1st gen.

I was wondering if the owner is on PY and can tell us if the Northwind manifold fit under the hood without modifications and if that hood is a replica of the 69 TA hood or if it was modified for additional clearance.

Default Northwind intake

I'm not the owner but I did build and install the engine in the car. The hood is a fiberglass reproduction 69' T/A hood with standard dimentions. The intake has a 850 holley on it and fits under the hood with the air cleaner pictured. It has about a 1/2 inch of clearance. I really like this intake, fit and finish is good.

Regarding the car, this is one of those cars that the more you look at it the more you see and appreciate it. Lot's of thought and detail went into the Firebird. Great car and runs as good as it looks! No trailer queen neither! Rick drives it alot.

Yo Adrian, that is a nice car, I'd black out the rear shocks though.....

Thanks for the reply. This is exactly the information I needed before I consider ordering an intake. I guess I need to get the engine in the car first though huh!

That is a very beautiful car, nicely done. With 600+ hp on tap, I'm sure it's a blast to drive too!

Gary H,
As the engine builder, was there any portwork done to the heads ? And was the engine dyno tested to confirm 600 horsepower with the small 224/236 at .050 hyd roller cam ? If so, at what rpm did it make peak power at ? I ask the rpm if known because of the big 4.500 stroke used in a factory 2-bolt block and using factory caps with bolts.

Default 1st generation firebird

Regarding the engine, heads just had a mild porting job done, nothing radical. Cam specs in the article are wrong, going by memory they are closer to 236/246 @ .050, on a 112. We didn't have engine dyno'd, so I'm not sure as to what HP is, or for that matter, where that number in the article came from. I'd guestimate around 550-575 myself. Lots of torque and very streetable.
