Default embarrassed to ask but checking charge??

How do i know my alt. is working while car is running, is there a sure way of knowing im getting juice to the battery>??? Secondly how do you determine the total voltage of the alt. that is needed. No ac no radio, no heater, total race car!! Say a 70 amp alt be enouigh??

You can touch your meter to the pos and neg posts of the battery when the car is running and the voltage should be more than 12V. When I checked my alt, it read 13.4V
