Give...My...Creation...... LIIIIFFE!

I went out to the shop Tuesday night. Miranda was out with the girls to watch some Twilight movie thing, the boys were in bed and I was out in the shop. As I sat there, drinking a beer, I thought to myself; hummmm? So I grabbed a jar, put some gas in it and pour some in the carb, got into the Catalina hit the key and it fired. Poured a little more gas in the carb, hit the key and she ran for 30 minutes (unitl I shut it down). No tweeking, no fiddling, nothing... she just ran sweet as can be. The 389 runs great. The car now has new springs, bushings, wheel bearings, and a reubilt heavy duty presure plate. I replaced the clutch disk and bearing. I put the KYB shock on and I kept the ride heigth lower, one: because I like the look, and two: I wanted to keep the CG lower for handling purposes. The springs have 20% spring rate added and it has a nice,... 1" rake from front to back Engine specs: bored .030 over, 068 cam, cleaned the bowls in the heads and worked the short side radius, compression ratio specs out at 9.6:1 (dished pistions) and the rotating assy has been balanced. Now all I need is my engine tuning guy to stop by and tweek it in, because I can't tune in an engine to save my life.  On the road again,... just can't wait to get on the road again...... -r-

Success!
Some guys like these cars jacked up in the air but I think they look better when they're a little lower, especially convertibles. |

2 questions
Why didn't you paint the D/S door as you did the 1/4 and the fender? I take it you're wanting a service call to tune it? Fire my car up while you're in the shop, run the bugs out!

Mike,
1: Both left and right doors get replaced. I'm top coating each panel as I get to it and then when I have all the body work repaired,.. it'll get a final all-over 2: Yes, you're the only one I trust with my car 3: I'd thought about running it this past weekend. I'm going to work on pulling the motor this week. As for the overall appearence of my car: "I don't know, a little paint, a few curtians, some throw pillows...." It now has an nice Schwan-schtücker Ron

Thanks guys, even though it sits lower than a factory ride,... I like the look; low slung with a little bit of rake. And it will stay that way Rock.... that how I set up the new springs.
I should have it at Norwalk this year. Last night, Chris from CW Restorations stopped by and helped me put the hood on. Today it goes for a front end alignment and then I'll be back to where I started, minus, of course, the rust holes. I'm hoping to take it to the cruise-in tonight with the boys. Ron

youth!!
I took the Catalina to have the front end aligned this afternoon. The tech doing the alignment was probably 25 years old and seemed pretty excited to do the work on the car, so he asks me as he's typing in the car information into the computer "it'a GTO,..right?" I replied, "no, its a Catalina",... then he asks me "are you sure?".... You're sh....ing me,... right? I think I know my own car (sigh)... but to give credit,.. he did a nice job.
Thne the boys and I took it out for a spin - we put about 50 miles on it... WOW, what a difference in ride and performance. Ron
