There is no low fluid warning. The brake warning light comes on when either the front or rear brake system is not getting pressure. Usually this means there is a leak somewhere and the M/C has run completely dry on one side. The electrical connection for this is at the brake block that is mounted on the frame (at least on the LH drive cars.)
The same warning light also comes on when the E-brake is depressed.

The service manual and electric diagram calls it: Low brake fluid switch
But the switch being at a junction block, they only thing it can check is the pressure, like said above. They could have called it Low brake pressure... |

Never realized they actually called it that. I guess it is sort of a very low, low, low level (as in the brakes aren't working) switch.

You'll notice something's wrong with the brakes wayyyyy before that dumb light comes up. Do you really need a light telling you; hey dude, I think your brakes aint workin'..
So yeah, I put it in the same category as the standard idiot lights . Only use IMO is for the parking brake.

Thanks all, only asked as I have fitted disc brakes and had to connect up the switch on the proportioning valve. My distribution block on the chassis rail is now gone and the wire was never connected up to it in any case. Thought I may as well hook up the new switch to give it a finished look, as you say, I'll know way before the light tells me anything is wrong.

It lets you know that the parking break is on.

I assume the system in the cutlass was similar/identical to our GTO systems.
