Default 1970 vs 1989 GM rear wheel cylinder

Im getting ready to overhaul the complete brake system on my 1970 GTO front disc, rear drum car. I have a new set of 1989 GM rear wheel cylinders in my parts bin. My question is it alright to use these? The `89s have a slightly larger piston, but fit and cosmetics are the same.

I just spoke to a service tech, and the larger `89 won't work.
