Default D80 cowl tag on none 1969 trans am?

Im new here. I got this site info from a guy that was selling firebird parts on mn craigslist. He showed me his 1969 firebird convertible that he was restoring and it had a d80 cowl tag. The tag & rivets looked real to me and I seen many tags. Does anyone no anything about this car?

LOL!

Welcome to the board - do a quick search, there's quite a bit of info on this anomaly.

Let me guess, the car came from the Lordstown Ohio plant?

I didn't get any pic or vin number. I just went to his shop and bought some parts.
we started talking about firebirds and he showed me a 1969 firebird convertible he was doing a rotisserie restoring too. The car had a D80 tag and it looked real to me and the rivets looked stock. He had alot of classic muscle cars behind a fence. I was shocked to see that many cars at one place.

I'd like more information on the Bird/tag.

Make sure it isn't B80.

Site for some info.

69 Cowl tags

And for some data on them:
(need Internet Explorer unfortunately or use Firefox with IE tab)

69 Cowl Tag Info

There are a few threads on this here on PY as was said.
Do a search for a lot of info(?).

Im 100% sure the tag had D80. I looked at it about 10-15 minutes. The odd thing about it is the D80 was more on the left lower side of the tag and all the other tags that I have seen the D80 is on the right lower side.

Yes, He had a stock factory 1969 trans am spoiler. He showed me alot of the parts he already had painted like trans am hood, truck lid, doors, and rear spoiler etc. They were all painted in a green color. He was getting ready to paint the fenders. It all look very nice. He had the body bolted on a rotisserie. It should look very nice when its done.

Did he tell you to come to this site just to talk Pontiac's or did he tell you to come here and talk about the D80 on his data plate?

No, He told me about this site and http://firstgenfirebird.org/
He said there was alot of info, cars & parts for sale.
He also told me that there was alot of drama queens on both site.
And if I joined. I would get attacked if the group didnt agree with what I posted.
I thought I would post just to see if anyone knew anything about the car.

I called and asked if I could get a couple pics because there was a couple people on this board that wanted to see them and he started laughing. He said showning the board pics would do nothing because no one from the board had ever heard of or seen a tag from LOR with extra codes until he said something to you guys. He also said that he was not going to supply a pics so the group can come up with some wild theory and next thing they think their theory is now fact.

Sorry,I tried but with no luck.

Mike, you've been played.

I'm not sure what the motivations are of the guy you bought the parts from, but he's pretty well known here. He pops in every once in a while, tries to sell one story, then another for what reason I don't know. I for one would love to see his car, regardless of the vin or the cowl tag.

Just so you know, the Lordstown D80 anomaly is a horse that's been beaten to death multiple times. It's been documented on multiple cars, not just his. FWIW
