I noticed my new 67 GTO runs about 190 degrees! I'm planning on putting a Vintage Air Gen IV system in! Will there be any problems? What should the car run? What about a cooler thermostat or will I need a new radiator! I live 50 miles SW of Houston, TX and temps can be hot in the summer and we do have plenty of humidity!

With the A/C running, you should expect 15 to 20 degree jump in temp. Anything under 220 should be fine. Cooler t-stat will only delay overheating. Radiator is the best choice if temps are over 220.

i'd seriously consider an electric fan(s) if you're going to put a condenser in front of your radiator, and put weatherstrip between the two, so all the air goes through both. works wonders at idle, too! t-stat won't help at all.

I use a spal electric pusher fan in front of the condensor (I added AC to mine as well), as well as a Griffin 1 1/4 inch tube diameter (2 row) (same size as factory 4 core) aluminum radiator and my temps are at 190 with the air on in 100 degree heat. Still have the factory fan and shroud in there as well. The Spal fans work better than other brands, but get the curved blade one if you do this mod. The straight blades are only a little better , but sound like a prop style airplane getting ready for takeoff.If you use only an electric fan, you should get the most powerful fan (or dual fan) set up you can (most cfm). and always use a relay.

Thanks for the help! The good news is Roger is considered the best of the best with Vintage AC, and I know I'm in good hands!!

1) Check REAL temp with IR gun.
2) If it's really hot, check water pump clearance & flow.
3) Is thermostat working?
4) If you are going to put in AC, I know you have a shroud, but you need to have the rubber baffles in front of the radiator.

Not everything, but a good start.

I guess I need to make a trip to Houston. What's for supper?
