Default 63 catalina speaker size and placement

hi there..looking to get some speakers for a 63 cat...factory ones..im guessing that the front one is a 4x10 10 ohm, and my question is..does the rear speaker mount in the package tray, or the middle of the back seat, under a chrome grille? and what sizes are those speakers?? thanks!!

Front is 4 x 10, not sure but IIRC the rear between the seats is a 6" round shape, the package tray is 6 x 9. All are 10 ohms. If you have old speakers with baked cones, I recommend having them re-coned instead of buying new ones. I can recommend a source for re-coning if you don't have a guy.

Also, be sure to use the front/both/rear speaker switch instead of hanging multiple speakers on the radio's lone speaker output.

The 6" rear seat speakers are hard to find and expensive when you do.

zeebo, what body style Catalina?

...in my opinion, most Cats (if equipped with the rear speaker) have them mounted in the package tray.

I had the same problem in my 64 Bonneville trying to get something to work. I made this tempalte to fit a 'modern' speaker:

ok..i guess the next question is: do all catalina trim packages have the chrome grill between the seat? im assuming the car ill buy is a base model type, and i want no a/c, so i know i could put a speaker in the grille, if it has one, or a 6x9 in the package tray...what kind of fader/ wiring do i need to use 2 speakers? one in dash/back window?

No, the seat with speaker is an option.
