Default '69 - '70 Plastic Rear Valance...

Just curious... how many owners of '69 & '70 GP's have the plastic rear valance on their cars? This '70 is the first GP I've had with one. I removed for the first time yesterday and then noticed a small guard that was crimped on the left bottom edge (like a stainless door edge guard)... the right side was missing as the valance broken there, but you could see where it was. I assume its there to protect it from heat off the tailpipe? Also, this valance is molded in color, not painted. I'm wondering if they made these in every color or just a select few?

My '69 GP had the plastic valance originally, but it was damaged so I used a metal valance from another '69 to replace it. Ididn't notice any guards on the plastic part, but it was damaged so maybe they were missing.

Grant,

I know they made them in espresso brown since my old 69 espresso brown SJ had the plastic rear valance. I bought the car from the original owner so know it was original to the car. Was not in great shape though. Cracked in several places and I do not recall it having the metal guards. Steve

Thanks for the replies guys... I cant imagine that they would have made these molded in every color available for '69 & '70? I never noticed the one metal guard on this one either until I took the valance off the car and cleaned it off.

I just had my original valance repaired and repainted in the factory color by a shop that specialized in plastic & fiberglass repair. It turned out great, but I'm afraid of what might happen when I reinstall it. Hopefully it will go back on without issues.

Thank you for the offer, but I think I'm set for now. I did have the original one repaired, they were able to fill-in the missing chunk of plastic and repair the other cracks. I'll post some before and after pictures when I get it back on the car.

Default Before & after repair pics...

Well, after getting it back on the car I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Would still like to have a nice metal valance for a back-up, but I'm content with this for now.

I didn't put the left guard back on and doubt that I could fit another guard on the right side where it was repaired as that edge is thicker from the repair.

I'd guess a few factors have slown down G/P spending.
Economy and lack of good sheetmetal available. [ full 1/4's so the sailpanels can be easily repaired].

Spring's here and the itch will be hitting everyone as soon as the temps warm up. I'm guessing sales will pick up some then.
