i am sorry i thought i was done. but only have 12 volts with key on. some posts say to jumper the ign1 and ign2 at the switch. this may sound stupid but how would this be done ? again thanks for all your help

I made a small jumper wire with two spade ends on it.

question, is there a spot on the starter that i could get 12 volts from with the key in the start position ?

It doesn't have to be 'at' the switch...the two wires could be connected anywhere along their length....it just makes for a neater job at the switch.
If you have the wiring diagram for your car (you should), just look at the entire paths of IGN 1 and IGN 2 and pick a convenient spot to jumper them together.

Yeah, I forgot about that. Some cars it's a resistor but on the GTO it's an actual wire. You will probably have to bypass that completely. I don't know how you'd tap into it. It's a weird little varnish coated wire. Very thin as I recall.

M&H and AAW sell a replacement wire for HEI conversions that taps directly into the fuseblock and has the correct HEI plug.

i just want to thank everyone here for all of their help. i soldered two 14 gauge wires to ign 1 and ign 2 on the switch. soldered them together ran one 14 gauge wire to hei dist. thing runs like a champ.

Do it right: replace the underhood pink Ignition wire with a copper wire.
