Default HEI BAT wire

Okay guys I'm stumped. I have an idea but need someone to bounce this off of. 79 TATA, 403.... Brought the car back to life after sitting a couple years. I had zero spark, I checked the HEI BAT wire, pink, and when disconnected from the distributor it has 12 volts. If I plug it in and measure for voltage with the lid to the coil off I have 6.5-7 volts..... I ran a 12 volt jumper and the car starts and runs great, turn the key off of course nothing happens until I disconnect my jumper. Now the really odd thing is that this is intermittent. For a little while today, I needed no jumper and the car ran great. I checked the resistance and the negative cable found no issues, even dropped the column to examine the ignition switch for burns. As I can tell from the diagrams, it appears that the pink wire comes straight from the ignition switch. Any help would be amazing

Your copper contact bars inside the ignition switch are carbon fouled....get a new ignition switch.....make sure you get the correct one....tilt and non-tilt use different switches.

This is the switch on the column under the dash.
(not the key switch)

Yes, ignition switch on the column....NOT the key cylinder.

Inside the ignition switch are many copper bars and small coil springs....when the copper bars get fouled they don't make a good connection with the contacts.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the HEI wire brown? I think you are hooking up to the Tach wire?

Default No, at least this one is pink

On this vehicle the pink wire has switched power, it is right next to the tach signal which is brown. The pink hei wire is closer to the firewall and the tach filter is closer to the carb.
