Gas Smell
After driving my 71 GTO and parking it in the garage I get a stong odor of raw gas. There is no visible leak. I also seem to be getting poorer gas milage. Any ideas of what to check?

on mine it was the rubber hose that goes to the fuel pump.

I had such a problem a while back. Turns out it was the screw-in carb fitting that held the bronze fuel filter. Over time threads had become compromised such that it no longer sealed well. Fuel on a hot engine not good and hard to identify due to rapid evaporation.

Check your oil; bad fuel pump membrane can fill the crankcase with fuel.

Check to see if the bowl plugs in the carb are leaking fuel. If so you can put some epoxy on them to reseal the plugs.

Checked today could not find any visible leaks. Idled the car 10 -15 minutes did not see or smell anything. Only when I come home after a drive and park in the garage close the door and when I go back out a short while later, strong gas smell. I didn't go for a drive today but that is when it happens. Any ideas?

It might be the float. Does it appear the fuel is dumping from the bowl? After you shut if off, take the air cleaner off and see if you can see the fuel oozing down. I think, if you don't have anything hitting the ground it's probably the carb. That darn ethanol.

I had a leak at the top of my gas tank...

Check your vent tube... make sure it is the corrct one and installed properly or you can slosh gas out of the tank everytime you take off... had the problem with my 68...

Seems to be gas dumping down the right primary. Thanks everyone for helping.
