por 15 and filler
Anybody use filler or fiberglass over por 15?
My trunk floor has some smallish pinholes and too thin to weld up but really not worth the work of cutting up a replacement panel to fix it. I was going to por 15 the surface rust and pitted areas then use fiberglass and putty to fill the holes and thin areas. Just not sure if anything will take hold on the por 15. |

POR makes the Tie Coat Primer you can use over the POR before the filler - it provides a surface for adhesion. Way back when I used POR in my trunk and floor boards and repaired a few pinholes using their epoxy putty. Great stuff!

About 15 years ago I coated the floorboards of my 68 with POR 15 and put fiberglass cloth anywhere there were pinholes or small rust patches. It covered up the holes very well and seems as strong as the undamaged areas of the floors. It looks the same today as it did the day after I put it on.
I highly reccomend this technique if your not concerned about it looking original. |

maybe just scuff it up a little with 80 grit before filler

Primers/fillers, etc.. flat out will not stick to por 15 for any length of time.. if you need to apply any sort of filler, remove the pro 15 first

The POR-15 people used to sell a trunk/floorboard repair kit, (they probably still do, just haven't been to the site lately) that is basically the POR-15 and some fiberglass matting. Several years ago one of the magazines (may have been for a Mustang, don't remember) did an article on this kit.
As long as you don't need it to look perfectly original this will do the job. Russ |
