68 Royal Bobcat Car
I just received this link in an email from Mecum. It may or may not have been discussed here before but I thought it was cool enough to post.

Been dreaming about that car for over a week ... wonder what it will fetch? Not many cars I'd give up my '70 Convertible for but that's one!

Mike,
Who restored the car? What did it look like before the restoration was started?

Beautiful. First I've ever heard of this car. The only Royal Bobcat '68 I've ever seen was that white or cream colored one with the gold stripes.
What color is this one?

I love these documented Royal Bobcat cars. Too bad there aren't more of these around. Great part of Pontiac history.

This car was on display with some other significant Royal Pontiacs at the MCACN event in Chicago (November of 2009):

The BossMan Royal Bobcat GTO was eventually acquired by noted muscle car collector Mike Guarise. Muscle Car Designs of Minooka, IL performed a frame-off restoration using primarily refinished parts original to the car, including the 428 CI engine that appeared in the famous PHR cover photo. In fact, that shot was recreated for two magazine articles when Schornack and Warren flew in to help install the engine to complete the restoration. patrick |

Well, I'll answer my own question...I've seen enough pics now to pronounce it Meridian Turquoise. That's my take anyway.

Yes it is Meridian Turquois. The valance doesn't fit perfect either, but I guess we're being too picky now?

This is the Popular Hot Rodding cover they refer to (March 1968).
That's Dave Warren on the left, Milt Schornack on the right.

Great story and history:
"Mike Rutherford, who owned the car until 1999, raced it extensively on the street for the first couple of years, with Arnie tuning the car for the occasional foray to the drag strip, where the two shared turns at the wheel. Arnie’s search for more performance in the GTO began even before its arrival at Royal when he secured a pre-production set of Ram Air II cylinder heads, which were bolted to the 428 short block prior to its installation. He took the car to JR Headers, who installed a custom-fabricated set of tubes, and he modified the front and rear suspension for improved launching, always respecting Rutherford’s caveat that the car not be cut. As Arnie Beswick recalled in a feature article on the car in the June 2009 issue of Muscle Car Review, “”Even though it was more of a street car than a race car, it did make numerous trips to some Midwestern drag strips, including Cordova, Illinois and Kahoka, Missouri. The “BossMan” lettering was put on the car when Mike felt it had paid its dues and earned the title. That’s also when he had my name put on the fender.”" But nobody says how it ran at track? Arnie is a legend and with the "need for speed" put RA II heads on a 428 is just nasty. But, says its more of a "street car than a race car" could mean it didn't do well at the track? Just asking as it is a local car that is way cool.

Bob Adams & Marvin Minarich, Jr. restored the car. Yes, I saw the car before, during and after the resto. Both guys still restore cars, but since have split and opened their own resto shops. The car doesnt look bad, although more original parts should have been used opposed to reproduction, this I believe was one of the first major resto's they had performed. I believe the car sat in arizona for many years exposed to the eliments, so alot needed to be replaced. As far as craftsmanship goes it was done very nice. Still some cool history with car, also was a original ram air I car, before the 428 swap.
