When I accelerated my 2004 from a stop the speedometer indicator went all the way around to the 180mph mark and then went back to the correct speed and worked fine. I happened twice that day and then has been working fine. What's up with this?

Can't you take a hint? Your car wants to go for a run.
![]() If it only happened during a single time that the engine was on, I wouldn't worry about it. Occasionally a computer glitch will surface and cause false readings. They'll usually disappear if the car is "rebooted".

Would this be a chevy truck or SUV? There was a lawsuit over the switec stepper motors used in GM dashboards 2000-2008ish. The dealership will replace the dash for free if it's a confirmed failure.

Sounds like the cluster wigged out or went into a test mode.
