I don't know about best/worst/etc., but I bought a decent 3-element set from Lowe's or HD and installed it. Made a BIG difference in the taste of the coffee and the quality of the ice the icemaker spit out. (Clear instead of cloudy white.)
Worthwhile in my opinion.

Don't know about any details, but I do have a system, and with our well water, water softener and purification system, our water better than any bottled water you an buy.

Bernie, we rent our reverse osmosis water filter, from a water company. Their supposed to come and change the filters once a year, we usally have to call them. The filters are supposed to be the expensive part. We have a well water and you can drink the water without any weird taste after it's filtered. Stray from the faucet it's sometimes has an odor / taste.

yea my wife is alittle picky to. Put in a Culligan reverse osmosis unit 3 years ago. She loves it. The filters change 1 time a year run about 86 dollars last year. Thats including the extra filter to the ice maker. Love the Crystal clear Ice Cubes we have. Definitly worht the money.

I have an inexpensive Omnifilter single cartridge undersink filter. You can get them at Menards. Works great if you use the charcoal filter. I change it once a year.
Whatever you get, toss the plastic tubing kit and plumb it in 3/8 copper. Much more durable. Also change the o-ring every couple of years.

Not good to leave the filter in to long as it can hold bacteria .
