1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The cruise control on my Jeep is acting like it is"slipping", that is the best way I can describe it. When I have the cruise on, it does not matter what speed, the engine RPM does not stay steady. I will be driving at say 68mph all of a sudden it acts like the trans/torque convertor slipped for 1-1 1/2 seconds. The engine RPM will increase between 300 and 500rpm. After then it is fine for a while then do it again. I drove without using the cruise at a steady 68mph to see if the TV cable was maybe out of adjustment causing the "slipping", the car never acted up all the way to work 27 miles away with 20 miles on I-75. So I do not think the TV cable is the problem but maybe the cruise control servo? As always thank you for everyones help.

i think id check for a possible vacuum leak or binding/sticking linkage

Pull out the speedometer sensor, clean it & reinstall.

The brake light switch has 3 sets of contacts in it, one for the lights, one for the cruise, one for the converter lock. They are pretty common to have broken contacts, I would pull it out and take it apart to check the contacts out. The switch can be delicate though, so be careful if you check it out.

TPS sensor.(worn out) At idle just lightly tap and see if the RPM doesn't jump a few hundred Rpm.

Had a 99 cherokee that was doing the same thing. Turned out to be a bad vacuum reservoir. Cheap plastic, small leak. Replaced it and problem was gone.

Could be vaccumn leak, hose runs under battery tray behind rf headlight. The reason I say TPS is they wear and the readings will spike by themself causing the trans to go in and out of lock-up.
