Hideaways .... first because of the look of the car with them closed .... I like just about all hideaway cars from Chargers to Riveras.
Second .... the way vacuum covers raise and lower ....kinda like they are alive, not synchronized, not with uniform speed, every time different, every car different, like a beast waking up. JohnnyB |

I personally have always liked the fixed version. They just look better to me. Less weight with no problems either.

Depends on the usage. Hipo car I prefer fixed, actually the Chrome bumper fixed version.
On a sit still pretty car it's tough to beat the asthetics of the hiddens. Mike

Hideaways change the whole look of the car and make it cleaner and more aggressive looking. Like dataway said, they look great on any old car make.

To me the standard set up is more aggressive looking. Not to mention added weight & more complexity. When looking for my current GTO it was the lower the options the better. Only thing on my build sheet is rear AM speaker and rally 2 wheels. I'm the 2nd owner. The car was made in Baltimore 40 miles from me and sold at a dealership (now gone) just 8 miles away. Keeping it local.
Perhaps my dislike of Hideaway stems from my youth. Back in the 70's and 80's when these cars were common, and still running around in original condition, seems as though every single one had the hideaways down all the time or they were stuck half way.

Absolutely no comparison! Hideaways for sure. My stripper Ram Air I came with them, my 69 Judge came with them, my special order 69 Carousel Red RA III convert came with them... My 68 convert was converted to them! BTW, we weighed a hideaway setup and a fixed setup years ago, the difference was like 11 lbs! I doubt many races were lost to the extra weight!

I kept my mouth shut cause I'm new here but I was going to mention that I didn't think the Hideaway system weighed so much more than fixed lights that it was a real issue ....otherwise you'd see different front springs spec'd for hideaway cars.... maybe
My 68 had 93,000 miles on it with hideaways working perfect and never repaired ....well they worked great until I piled it into the back of a Chevy at about 20 mph. Even then the right one would still go up and down JohnnyB |
