I am well into my latest restoration - a 69 GTO frame off.
My question is what color is the bottom of the body supposed to be? I thought it was supposed to be black. One buddy says body color, but that is his Mopar mind talking I think. Please help set the record straight. Yes I will post pics as soon as I get some from the shop. Thanks John |

As far as I know they were all black except one plant was red oxide, not sure what plant that was.
Here's a post about this subject and picts of my Fremont car with factory over spray http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=691162 |

All were black that i know of except framingham plant. Framingham usually had red oxide on floor with body overspray and i think the arlington plant usually had more body color on floor than others.

John,
I am glad you posted this question as I was going to as I am close to getting my 69 body blasted and was looking at which epoxy primer to use and what color. I am going back and forth whether to use SPI brand epoxy primers or PPG DP line epoxy primer. I am thinking and please correct me here of going the red oxide over the entire body and inside the complete shell, and then shooting Black for the underside and frame. I agree that the underside most of the time is black as every picture of original undersides seem to be black with various degrees of over spray. As for the inside of the shells it appears to be red oxide as every original car and pictures I have seen, you can clearly tell it is red oxide with color over spray. As for the exterior I always see red oxide primer under original paint cars as they are stripped down or where they have sat outside for years and years and the paint wears down to expose red oxide. What are every ones thought here? I will find some pics I have save thru the years for examples.
