Default E Head Heater Hose Nipple

Hey guys.

I just put some E heads RPM on my 455 this winter. I currently have a plug in the head where the heater hose fitting should be. Does anyone know what fitting i need to get for there to be able to hook up the heater core again? Where I can get them?

From memory on mine: 3/4" MPT x 5/8" barbed fitting.
Possibly plumbing supply?

I know the hole is 3/4" NPT. I use AN stuff. Usually they send you the fitting with the heads. Let me look in the tool box and see if I have some.

I got the heads used, so that is probably why no nipple.
I need to figure out the size of the Allen head for the plug, and then get a fitting. I may try to use an elbow of some kind, because me heater hose is tight and kind of kinks on a straight fitting.

I used AN fittings. This is what I fabricated for the heater connection. Yes they are on an Iron head but the same idea can be used on aluminum heads.
The threaded adapter can be seen in the right end of the head. The adapter is fabricated. by a PY forum member.
I duplicated this setup to SD Performance KRE Aluminum heads using Earl's pipe bushing reducer pn 991206ERL The reducer for the 3/4 pipe thread is avialibel
with 1/2", 3/8" or 1/4" internal pipe threads. Then use a pipe thread to A.N. adapter. These adapters are avialibel straight, 45, or 90
I used Earl's brand fittings. www.earlsplumbing.com

Yes, 5/8"
The only problem with those pipe threaded fittings, is what direction is the fitting pointing when the threads tighten up.
I found a copper pipe to threaded pipe adapter at the local big box store. I planed on using #10 A.N. to the heater,
#12 from the water pump to the heater.

These are the parts out of the EARL'S catalog.
1 ea. 991208ERL pipe thread to pipe thread adapter. 3/4 OD 3/8 ID page 68.
1 ea. 981611ERL pipe thread to A.N. adapter. #10 AN to 3/8 pipe, page 64.
Rember there need's to be a restriction to protect the heater core from pressure surges.
1 ea. swivel hose end page 19 or 20.Your choice degree of bend.
hose on page 20. Or your choice of over the counter hose.
The swivel fittings are crimped ends. How ever for heater hose a a regular screw hose clamp will work.
If you want to get fancy check out the hose clams on page 96

Why I went with AN also pretty similar to his setup. You have to use a 3/4 NPT bushing to 1/2 to get a -10 fittting. I also used an AN at the timing cover with a -12 fitting

The AN looks cool, I just hate to pull the fender to get to the heater hoses and core again. But will check it all out.

If the heater hose is fairly new don't worry about replacing the hose. Put an A.N. fitting on the engine side only. If you do decide to put an A.N. fitting on the heater side loosen the back bolts on the inner fender and pull it down about 4 to 6 inches. No need to remove the entire fender.
