Default Two Tone Tempests

This Tempest is currently on ebay and seller claims it has one repaint on it.
I have seen a handful of two tone Tempests painted like this. Did Pontiac ever paint the lower contour like this??

Default Two Tone Paint

Hi Gary, I have seen this done a couple times with cove painted white. Pontiac did not do this. I think people are trying to copy the look of a Corvette. Another nice original interior!

That looks okay, but prefer the original style. Would like to see some factory 2 tone Tempests. What 2 tone color combos were available the 3 years?

2 tone was just top & body. Cove area was allways body color. You could get any combo you wanted on paint,,,just put the order in when you buy a car!!! My 61 Cp is coded N-C Cherrywood Bronze/Shelltone Ivory

Sorry,,,Misunderstood. The recommended color combos will be in the Color,Fabric & accessory book for each year. I dont have any of the 61-63 books, have been outbid many times on Ebay. I did thumb through a 61 while at the Pontiac Museum in Ohio last year. I will contact Tin Dye & see if he can get us that info.

Thanks everyone. I didn't think Pontiac painted them this way but after seeing a few more pop up, I had to ask. Here is another one that a LIC member has for sale.

Have seen just about any combo you can think of. Didnt like any of them that had the cove area a different color. BUT,,,,I have yet to see any factory 2 tone paint job that I didnt like!!! Just something about the Pontiac colors from the factory,,,WOW! A lot of thought went into those combinations.

Thats what I'm talking about!!! Great combo!! I even saw a 62 that had a stripe painted down the center of the hood roof & trunk with the coves the same color as the stripe. Looked like Krap!!!! Saw that car in a parts yard,,,good place for it!

Looks like a resale red repaint to me. Plus the interior color seems to be a huge miss match if it were a factory red car. Thats my duece cents?

Here's the color combination chart from the 1961 dealer album. The page was larger than my scanner but I think I got all the important information copied.

In the chart above, two tone colors are noted as 'upper' and 'lower'. I'm not a Tempest expert but any two tone cars I've ever seen were body=one color and top=another color.

X2!! 2 tone was only upper & lower. No cove painting was available from the factory. Paint code on the firewall trim tag will have a 2 letter designation. If both letters are the same it's a single color paint job. If there is 2 different letters under the paint code it's a 2 tone paint job with the first letter designating the body color & the second letter designating the top's color.
