Default Difference in 68-72 4 spd consoles?

Is there a difference in 4 spd consoles from 68-72? My thinking was the 70-72 had a sqare hole for the lid latch and a round hole, and 68-69 did not have the square hole but the 69 had a round hole only on top under lid maybe for a light button and the 68 had no holes at all. Has anyone ever checked this?

My 69 has no hole. It has 2 small round rubber bumpers for the console door to contact.

I also had a question about this. I have an original (albeit dyed) console from a 1969 that has what feels like neoprene padding beneath the covering. The 1970 that is 100% original that I have has no padding; just vinyl covering stapled and glued to the form.

Now that is interesting......I've never seen an original console with
foam padding under the vinyl covering. My original 69 console has no padding,
just vinyl molded over the plastic frame.

I will tear some vinyl off of it and find out what it is underneath.

I checked my original 1969 console. It has about 5/8" of dense greenish foam very similar to neoprene. There is a console on ebay that has the same appearance. Anyway, maybe this is commonly known. Could it be from a Grand Prix? I have an original 1970 and there is no padding; just vinyl over plastic.

Yes, that is what I thought regarding the Grand Prix but I think a seller on eBay was advertising it as such. Anyway, my 1970 has a black form and the 1969 has a green tint to it like the one on eBay.

I was wondering if Just Dashes preserves or replaces the foam padding when they recover the console?

I've attached a few pictures of my orignal console. My little camera does not work very will in rather dark conditions with the flash so sorry about that.

My console has no padding under the vinyl, but maybe some did. You can see that there is no hole in the top of the console under the door. You can also see the two small rubber bumpers for the door to contact. I have had it out once in the last 33+ years. It looks like the shifter boot is pretty dry!

I have the driver's side door panel off.

Since I looked in the glove box, here is the tag that was under the original capet that I replaced and the 1986 invoice for $292.60 (lol) to make the stainless exhaust system. It was custom bent since there were no repo's.

I have replaced the package tray, carpet, door sill plates, clutch/brake pedal pads and rechromed the plastic on the dash. The remainder is original. I should have probably left all of it so it would be 100% original inside, but this was all done in the 80's when that did not seem so important.

Is the Auto Console lid the same as the 4 speed, as I have an original Auto lid and could go and check what it looks like?

My Dad had a 69 auto LeMans, and I remember the lid being the same. But it would be nice to have confirmation of that. The console itself was different of course.

Hard to get pics but just went down to basement to look at my Auto Lid and it is identical to yours, BetWinner...molded underneath with 2 bumpers on console itself...

Just to confirm, that photo was taken of the padding around the four speed "hole" in the console. That padding is not associated with the lid. It is clearly factory, dense, and high quality (not home-made) and an original cover. I'd like to know the story and I'd like to know what is correct but in the end, Just Dashes will do what they do for 68-72 correct of not.

on a different note I had a 68 4spd car back in the early 80's and it had a light in the glove box like the automatics do. I have owned a pile of 69 4speed cars and none of them had a light.

The shop and assembly manual show the manual trans consoles as having lights.

Any thoughts on this?
