Fixed vrs. hideaway value?
Hey guys, I have a hideaway headlight setup on my 69 that I am contemplating trading for a fixed setup. I know there are people more than willing to trade, but I'm pretty sure the hideaway setup is more valuable.
I would rather keep my hideaway setup since I may own this car again in the future (see my build thread). What kinda change would a guy be shelling out for a standard fixed headlight setup these days? I kinda have an idea of what the hideaways are worth. Thanks, ~Joe |

I sold a fixed setup about 5 years ago and I think I got about $350 on ebay - I was surprised at how much I got for it. You could probably check completed listings on ebay to see if there was any more recent activity.

Check EBAY for value. I would try and keep the hideaways though.

I'd say it all depends on the condition of the fixed headlight bezels. Getting old, pitted ones to show or even very good driver quality isn't cheap. And (to my knowledge) they aren't re-popped. It's been a while, but I think the going rate for just the bezels (show quality) was around $400 a pair.
Hideaway setups seem to go for about a grand or so.

It seems time to repop the headlight bezels. In the early 80's, I believe PMD had one of the fronts that you could get over the counter--I still have the box. I had to find the other side NOS from an individual. The rear headlight bezels were long gone for the most part. I was apprenhensive about rechroming my originals which only looked tired so I bought a pair of the rears to rechrome. They were pitted and the chrome job did not look good so I had my originals rechromed. They turned out beautiful so that solved my problem.
With this many years having passed, it seems that a good front repo would sell very well.
