Default Cal-Tracs vs. Slide-A-Links

Hey everyone

Im done with the slapper bars on my Street/Strip 78 T/a, and thinking I want to try either the Caltarcs or the slide-a-links. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience running either of these on a street car, keeping ride quality in mind

Thanks
Mike

I ran Cal-Tracs, and for a factory suspension, I wouldn't run anything else.

Thumbs up

Ran the Cal-tracs for years on the street;no issues.

Check out the Assassin bars from Smithracecraft;they`re similar to Cal-Tracs,but with more adjustment.

When I say "factory suspension" I mean the original leaf sprung set-up the factory installed, not neccessarily factory spec springs and shocks. I ran Landrum springs with QA1 Stocker Stars (adjustable) in my 79 T/A.

cal-tracs, ran em on a 67 Firebird. cal tracs replace the front bushing with a solid aluminum one as you likely are aware. i used em on mine, but u can leave your original rubber fronts in for more cushion if your mostly street drivin and only occasional race.

I have the slide-a-links. Work good for me at the track, do nothing for me on the street. What are the differences between the two?

Cal Tracs will work fine for most guys. I personally favor the Assassin bars due the many adjustments you have to fine tune it, and the fact that I don't have to make plates with more adjustment holes for the bars that don't have them . Just depends on what your goals are with the car. Keep in mind they are not bolt on horsepower...still need a good setup in the back to get the best results, and fine tune from there..Oh, and as in Jeff's case a lot of HP helps to

Any concern about how low they are?

It's a matter of choice.
One of my upgrades this off season was to go complete Cal Trac combination. They have been proven time & time again.
I ran south side machines before that.

Slide A Links are made for manual transmission tranny's for Strip cars or street cars. If you do a lot of street driving - you will DEFINITELY get a better "ride" from Slide A Link

Cal - Tracs are more for strip only. And are more adjustable. Great for Automatic strip cars.

Both work fine in their intended use.

If you have a 2nd gen F-Body.... you don't need much of anything unless you are faster then 10's

.

Hey everyone

I took a look at the assassin bars and they are definitely some nice looking pieces. Im just not sure that i will need that much adjustability, Like I said my car is street/strip with a little more of the set-up leaning towards the street-able side, but im still having some issues with traction and some serious wheel hop, so I just want something that is going to help me put some power down with my new motor. I like the idea of keeping the rubber busing on the front with the cal tracs, but I was also reading that it is very easy to unset the pre-load on the slide-a-links so for street driving they arnt as stiff.

This is the set-up I have plan to run with which ever traction aid i choose

-Hotchkis Leafs
-Adjustable shocks(brand undecided)
-Mickey Thompson ET streets 275-60-15
-cal trac or S-A-L

Running 3.42 and planning on running a Continental Jim Hand Special Converter all being launched off foot break

Thanks
Mike
