Default On the road again... 1970 Le Mans Sport convertible...

Here are a few pix of my perpetually-in-progress 1970 Le Mans Sport convertible...

Just got it back together after almost ten (!) years (long story.) Call me the king of procrastination!

Still need to work on the stance (want a lower ride) but need to choose new wheels/tires first.

Yeah, power top needs TLC - I need to fill/bleed the cylinders but it does operate, s-l-o-w-l-y

Agree - I think 17x9" or so is the max I would try. Heck, I could stick with 15" and lower it, but I do like the look of the 17s.

Here's the look I really like... but I'm not sure I'll ever get there! This is a rad green 70 lemans with 18x9.5 front wheels with 275/35, 18x10.5 rear wheels with 295/35 rubber...

@all: Thanks for the great comments.

Took it out for the shakedown drive this afternoon (just got it registered and insured!)

Runs great, what a difference the new suspension and brakes make.. the handling and braking were barely adequate before I started down this path oh so long ago... 4-wheel drums, used to pull all over the road on hard stops... dramatic body roll and understeer on every spirited drive down the country roads... now, brakes are more than adequate, little body roll, and no more understeer. Highly recommended.

One nice thing about having it torn down for almost ten years: it's a 42 year old car with only 32 years of use!

I hear ya. I like to keep things as original as possible, but... had to address the handling on this car.

Everything I've done so far is 'reversible' - main thing is I want something that handles and stops as well as it goes. I suppose it's my weakness, but driving newer cars tends to spoil me when it comes to handling and brakes.

One other thing about drum brakes: out here in Cal-e-fornia the brake shops are no longer allowed to arc brake shoes to match drum diameters (thanks to state regs) -- last time I had a classic car's brakes done ('64 caddy, 4 awesome huge drums) it took months to get them bedded in and working properly. That sucks, and there's little I can do about it other than buy my own arcing rig.

Yeah, those are pretty nice looking (I've seen that photo of the white Lemans on pro-touring.com, and the Year One wheels are on my 'maybe' list...)
