I am thinking of changing my car from a 4spd to an automatic. It is an original Sprint HO car with 3 speed and now has a 400 with a 4 speed. W ill this hurt the value much?

In my opinion, do what do you want to do.
In my experience the automatics are BORING. A 4 speed car is much more fun to drive and has a certain appeal the auto's lack. If you do go the auto route, a TH-350 will bolt right in with your crossmember and driveshaft as should the 200R4 OD auto. The TH-400 is stronger but requires a different crossmember and driveshaft. I have converted my Birds from Auto to stick a couple of times and is not a big deal. If you are planning to sell the car soon, don't switch it. |

I am considering selling and finding an automatic car but body is very good on this car. I am changing because I have bad knees and it is uncomfortable to drive with standard.

If it's a 67, the hole in the floor is the same for an auto or a stick as the 67 auto shifter is a completely different animal with mechanical linkage to the trans. The 68-69 use a cable and a much smaller hole.
Again, if you have a 67 floor shift with console, you'll be able to retain the same console, just changing the shifter bezel. If you have a 68-69 with console, you'll need to change the complete console. If you have no console, you'll definitely need one since no auto on the floor ever came without a console. Just giving you stuff to think about before you take the plunge. Frank. |

If your knees are giving you pain, then it won't be fun to drive the car at all. If you have a good car, install a TH-350 or 200R4 and enjoy the drive!

Wish you were closer, I'd swap you my auto (th400) setup for your stick.
