Yeah a bit far from me, thanks though. What is the average price for good useable condition? I know one local guy who has one early style that is solid and clean on the outside with slight surface rust underneath, but wants me to make him an offer. I would say it is in good condition and has no dents.I just want to be fair to both of us if I do make an offer.

if you can get it for that, it is a steal. things have changed in the last few years, but i sold a very nice 75-76 hood for 500.00 at the TA nats in 2010. decent ones, for 300+, and sold everyone i had.
a true 70-72 used to go for around 2,000 depending on condition. if you could get one for under 1,000 i would think you were doing pretty good. these are like true 70-72 fenders, they are so expensive, they only make sense for the numbers matching big dollar cars.
i have 2 hoods(that are not for sale i have cars) and i would not even think of less than 1,500.

As you likely know, there are differences in the understructure of 70 vs 71 hoods. I felt lucky to find a perfect 70 hood that had been hanging on a bedroom wall for 25 years. I had to pay 1k for it as it is a tough item to find.

$400 is a steal on a nice 70-72 hood.

A near perfect one should be worth $1000-$1500 even in the current market.

I bet yall didnt see this one on ebay for $329 Isnt Chicago somewhere around illinois?

Hi Comanchefirebird, can you explain the differences between '70 and '71? Pictures of course would be helpful.

Here's another thread with great information on these early hoods (I wouldn't want HFR to ding me for not searching a little before posting )

I always happy when someone posts a existing link instead of posting more of the same pictures. But, I like to delete the &highlight... afterwards so I'm not looking at red words.

Hi
Thanks for posting the thread reference. I am mistaken saying there was a difference between 70 and 71. I was thinking of the shift from two rectangular holes to four in the front brace either side of the hood latch receiver. I may have seen a post elsewhere, perhaps in the 11-12 page thread about the unique parts for 70 vs other years. I thought someone had a late 71 TA hood with the 4 holes, but I can't find the reference.
Regards,
Steve

I am feeling pretty good about the 72 hood I bought while looking for steel wheels at the junk yard a couple months ago. The eager to help young guy said I think there is a Trans Am hood over behind these trees. We dug through and moved a few
hoods in the front and out popped a rust free white painted over red hood. It had one nickel sized ding in the top and has hood pin holes. The owner says (thinking hard) its been here a long time and I'm thinking it going to be high because nobody has bought it yet. How about $30.00 dollars. I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough
