Have some work to do and it is cold up here in the NORTHEAST. My garage is not heated but is attached and under the house. It stays around 50 on the cold nights. Can I use a filler at this temp. or should I get the heat up. Also is there a certain type that I should use or brand that is best.

about the temp, i am not sure. i use evercoat extreme rage, pink can. i am in sc & today it was 50. i heated the fender area with my trouble light and put on some bondo,on two small dents then left the light on the back of the fender to warm it up.i'll check it tomarrow for sanding. cant wait for warm weather again.

Im in wi so i have played over the years and i dont think i would want to trust it to last even if it did harden read the can and see what it says. spend the money and get a good bodyshop puddy it sands muccccch easier

I had the opposite problem 2-months ago. I never mixed and spread filler that fast before. I couldn't find any information on the product websites about heat ranges.

It should help if you spread it in slow motion too.

Nothing to do with body or paint is good under 60*. Not that it wont work, but its best to be as close to 70* as possible.

Don't use filler or paint if the temp is under 60, it won't cure properly.

Evercoat makes a good product, 3M is another. I use both, just depends on whats on sale.

If you get a lightweight filler they sand much easier, but make sure you wear a dust mask as they use glass beads as filler. Also remember that this type of filler cannot go over paint.

Polyester putty is fine for little tiny door dings and can go on top of paint or as finishing coat over your filler as it is the easiest to sand.

Fiberglass filler is best to use over welds and rust spots that have been spot blasted as it is waterproof. Short strand, not long strand.

i used ALL METAL after welding in a patch & then skim coated evercoat extreme rage over it.

I agree with the previous statement of purchasing a higher dollar lightweight filler. Seems a waste when so much of it hits the ground, but it sands better, applies smoother, etc. Irgoatmike

Got the garage up to 70 degrees today, I have a gallon of evercoat Chrome-a-lite filler. Is this a good brand and type. Thanks for all the help..

Actually I did a good part of my project with Chromalite. It is an older liteweight filler with a little more tendency to pinhole, but a good cost vs performance filler. Irgoatmike

Chrome-A -Lite is fine as a filler. Get the dent or metal as close to original height as possible to keep filler as thin as possible. Should not exceed 1/4".

I've used filler in conditions colder than 50* and while not ideal it will still work. At that temp plan on sanding it the following day and it may still be gummy on the surface but when the top surface is gone it will sand and feather OK. If you want to speed it up just put a heat lamp on the filler and it will harden much faster.
