Default A.P.D. is at it again !!! (CV-360 ???)

... ok guys, i have to admit here, i've been dropping the ball with the CV-355 port as i have not touched it in quite a while, so i decided to jump back on the horse and get this thing more where i wanted the first time around ...

... and boy i'm glad i did, this port is somewhere around 360cc's, give or take some, once i'm done with it i'll volume test it and if it's bigger, i will just change the name to the according size ...

... this port is the most CSA i can fit in this head and still maintain the down angle i have in this location of the port, which is well above 4.5csa at the entry, it is based on a 2.400 valve and a 50 degree seat, and the valves are still in the standard CV-1 location, but it is NOT a std. pushrod head as it will need our off-set shaft system for this port configuration, the port was tested on a 4.400 bore and it's almost 400fps at the apex, right in the middle of the short-turn, but the port is backing up some at .900 lift which i believe is related to the short-turn shape ...

... i am still on the small percentage side at the throat, and the upstream choke, as i am trying to get this thing to turn on as soon as i can, but i think i need to open it up a little in those areas, and there is also still a bit of a flat spot on the top of the short-turn making it a little tall there, so i'll be reworking the floor to flatten it some, and removing the flat spot on the short-turn, bumping the throat % and upstream choke % and we'll retest it in between each of the changes to see what it likes and what it doesn't like ...

... but for the first time baseline on the bench, (for this shape) i was pretty happy, so we're at a tick over 114cfm/sq.in of valve at the peak, but i will keep you guys posted once i get it worked out ...

(CV-360 Intake Port)

.100 - 84.1

.200 - 195.3

.300 - 244.9

.400 - 307.3

.500 - 377.2

.600 - 434.8

.650 - 454.7

.700 - 471.6

.800 - 495.2

.850 - 502.4

.900 - 491.6

1.00 - 499.8

1.05 - 507.4

1.10 - 516.9

... yes, this is actually one of P-Dude's old CV-1 castings, i guess you could say it has come full circle now ...

... and yes again Bruce, this port will CNC 100% in a "ReTool" CV-1 casting without any welding needed, once they are available, but that was the purpose of the CV-355-360 port, to maximize the design and make the needed changes to the "ReTool" CV-1 to be able to house this shape completely from a CNC program ...

Outstanding work Bill, it will be fun to see what you can do with the new cv1 casting in the future as well as the cv2 down the road.
These advancements will most likely merit a serious look at what can be done to make available blocks better to develop a new block with the features to really take advantage of this cylinder head development work you've been doing and are continuing to do.

It's been fun seeing you get better and better over the years for the last 20 years and to reach a high level like this is fun for me to witness, couldn't have happen to a better guy . Your hard work is paying off just keep chipping away at it, going down the track will be icing on the cake I believe, we'll see!

The PortMaster strikes again..!

Things that come to mind, better oiling, different size mains, some block changes if needed that can better help incorporate the main cage in development, deck heights currently not available, block fixtures with bosses in locations better suited for midplates , dry sump oil systems, centrifugal superchargers, more head bolts ,smaller main bolts possibly to retain more thickness on the main saddles and caps, etc..

I think Bills doing a great job (So is the other head porters IMO) these numbers show a boat load of potential, I just hope these things can go on a motor soon........but for now digitizing would be another big step I'd like to hear about.Keep up the good work Bill.
