Engine part date codes?
Im trying to put together a numbers matching engine for a 68 GTO. The question I have is, how much variation in dates between the block, heads, and intake would be acceptable, or common to a factory engine? How close to the cars build date can the parts be?

Ol' friend of mine (long time Poncho man) sez 3 to 5 months prior to assembly date for most parts. . I don't know for sure how the sequencing would roll out but good speculation would be close on most parts.

A better approach is to tell us the build date of your car and the plant that is was built at. Block dates can really vary on these factors.
Unless you are going for serious car show competition, it does not matter. |
