Hello all. Just looking for some info. Looking for new (to me) rig. Realy liking the tundra with the 5.7 TRD. Any do or don'ts are welcome.

I've got an 06 double cab and love it, don't care to much for the newer ones. To bulky looking but still a good truck.

I have the 2007 5.7L Double Cab. I bought it in March of 2007. I really like it. My '64 GTO is loaded on the trailer behind it right now to go to Wangers' presentation tomorrow.

'07 double cab limited. 120,000 miles. Not a squeak or rattle. It drives like the day I bought it. I've had a lot of Toyota cars over the years, but was wary of a full size pick-up from them. Now, I'll never buy another.

2007 owner and also Toyota tech for 25 years. Love my truck, pulls my 25 ft 5th wheel with no issues. Have seen a few rear axle brags go and the odd water pump, but nothin serious. Had a few air pump issues but they extended the warranty till 10 years or 150000 miles or something like that. Oh ya mice love the knock sensor wires under the intake. Lol.

Good news. Thanks. What is average mpg the 5.7 will do ? It is the heaviest on fuel it seems for the half tons.

OMT, are those Toyota tow mirrors ? Or after market ? I have the nice big flip up mirrors on my ram now. Was worried about mirrors for the tundra.

05 double cab here.....just getting ready to roll 200k miles. Wish they still made this model.....perfect size for me

Tundra tow mirrors, and in the picture they are not extended. My towing mileage is 13.0-14.5 depending on terrain. I got 14.5 in a 2000 mile round trip to Oregon. Freeway driving without the trailer it is pretty easy to get 19.0, and that is going freeway speeds. Over 70 it starts dropping because of the frontal area.

Oddly enough, I drove a 2500 mile round trip and discovered that I get better fuel economy at around 80 mph than 75 mph. I got 18.4 MPG with no trailer with a 2010 4wd double cab 5.7

I loved my 06 double cab TRD 4wd. 16.0 mpg Lots of room for kids and adults. Even took the bbq grill in the bed to Norwalk one year.

No problems pulling moms GTO throught the smokey mountains to Pigeon Forge.

07 Tundra SR5 4 WD w/5.7, 8ft bed, 4:30 gear. Currently has @ 137k. Very impressed with the ride and solid feel. Have only pulled my 70 Buick GS455 with it (Firebird not quite done yet) and have found it to be a very good tow vehicle.
Mileage is @ 13.5 towing. Best mileage I have seen is @ 18 highway.

Ya, it's not a vehicle that you buy for the mileage. But it's got tons of power and it's very smooth. My '06 GMC was always kicking down a gear when pulling the trailered Lemans on a hill. Not with this truck.

Going to look for a new truck next month for my wife to pull her 2 horse trailer. First choice is a 5.7 Tundra reg cab, 4wd, short bed. 2nd choice 5.3 GM.

After 125,000 miles the Toyota will be just broken in while the GM will be near the end of it's useful life.

Hate me all you want but I'll take a Toyota any day of the week. I don't have a Tundra but I have a 3.4 4 Runner and they're good for 300K easily.

I have an '05 Tundra doublecab. I'd just as soon drive it as my Equus. It's quiet, comfortable, powerful, & solid. It only has 23k miles on it. I was going to buy a new one because of the 5.7 but they're too big. Jon

Like I said the Tundra is my first choice but it will come down to finances and the availabilty of a reg cab and short box. Been looking at local Toyota dealers inventory and have yet to see one. Hopefully I can order one. Still it has to be in my price range. The company I work for has a fleet of Tacoma's so I'm aware of their longevity. Since the truck will be an extra vehicle I only average 6-7 thousand miles per year. So any truck I buy will be a rust bucket ( thanks to living in good old NYS.) long before the rest of the truck goes.

I don't believe that I have seen one in that configuration. I'll bet it would look pretty cool. I'm wondering what the ride characteristic would be with a shorter wheelbase.
