Default 74 GA 4 Speed Parts

Have the opportunity to by a rough but complete 74 Grand Am 4 speed car for $1500, I would be parting the car as there is no title and the car is in poor shape. What would a complete 4 speed set-up bring? Car has the original motor, may be stuck however.

Figuring the rear end is good (it might not be with a 4-speed,) and the body parts are all shot and the interior is trashed, I see you breaking even on the car at that price. Depends how bored you are, 'cuz you'll need to salvage the glass and the little bits--then store 'em 'til they sell.

I know someone is gonna flame me, but $800 for the car--yeah, the motor is locked, you must assume that--sounds closer to it.

Nowadays, people will jump up and shout "I could scrap it for $500!"--which is probably exaggerated--but not everyone has the equipment and time to go scrapping. I give all my scrap to buddies who do it, in exchange for favors. So no money there.

The console, shifter, linkages, pedals the complete 4 speed setup will likely go for the bulk of the 1500 to the right person.

Please post info on the car, build date, options, B-W or Muncie, ITM or Hurst, etc.

You might not make a whole lot of profit, but at least the parts will get used in another restoration, instead of crushed. Like Horst, I am curious which shifter, knob, transmission was used in this car.

Question Factory Tach?

appears that you would have many potential buyers for the drive train, trans tunnel, pedals, Z-Bar, Console, and all other misc. parts.

IIRC One of the ABody website members (who also posts here) was asking $4,500 for his "complete 4-speed conversion parts". dunno if he ever sold them, or for what price, but IMO $1,500 or less for that car could be a good purchase.

I would suggest that the trans parts, console, Z-Bar etc., drive shaft, and rear end as a package would be the most desirable to potential purchasers.

Default 4 Speed

I know the car has a ITM shifter and a leather wrapped knob, similar to a F body. I will cost me roughly $500 if fuel to get it home. Keep you posted! JIM

Just by looking into the 1974 4 speed shifter knobs this far, it appears that the parts book does not align at all to what was actually installed in these cars. The parts book does not even list the F body style knob as an option, Hurst shifter or not.

Default 4-Speed

The owner had a T/A also, that would probably explain the shift knob!

It could, but Horst's '74 came with it brand new, and another '74 I found in Florida has one too.

Lightbulb

Hurst T-Handles are what I like best. IMO those round ones can get slippery and cause a miss-shift...
Our OEM shifter knobs are on the shelf or in the center consoles of all of our 4 speed Ponchos.
