Re-fitted the Rally IIs for a while.
I put the 15" restored Rally IIs back on the car to get a feel for how they compared to the 17"s....handling is not as crisp, and they aren't as sticky as the Nittos, but they ride SO much more comfortably than the 17" set up.

Thanks...they're staying, I think. Even my wife commented on how much more comfortable the car was to ride in.

That looks REALLY good Leigh!.For traction you can go up to 255's on 7 inch rims,I did on my honeycombs.

I noticed the same thing in my dd, when going from 17" rims to 19“. You feel every rut, pothole and seam much more. The +2 look much better, but the 17s ride way smoother.
Btw, what's that on the other side of the tree? Future project? |

In '71 the Tires were PART of the suspension...I know some in here will choke trying to swallow that one, but its a proven fact that a sidewall can absorb shocks, and actually save the car some abuse as well as our bodies.. I love the look

Sidewalls Rule! Leave it to the wife to bring you to the truth. As said before, conclusively, and unconditionally, the original wheels look wayyy more killer on that F-body!
Don't tell the back street boys tuners on tac what you've done, Leigh.

I had the choice when rebuilding the car to switch to RHD. Wouldn't do it, they drive way better the way they were built - LHD.
Those are 255/60x15 all around. I think a lot of the problem of the harsh ride may be due to the 255/50x17 tyres are on their max rim width on the 9" wide rims - there is no "flex" left in the sidewalls. I've used 255/50's before on 8" rims and not suffered the hard ride....more sidewall flex, I expect. I had these Rally IIs restored in two pack urethane when I was finishing the car, can't go past the Rally II for a factory wheel...none better!

I have found the best riding 70-73 set up is a tire closest to what came from the factory, 70 series type size and not modern low profile style, the taller ones. Not the best sheer cornering, but the most enjoyable road cruising feel. I am going to that on my 72, have done it before.
btw, your car looks vastly better to my picky eye now.

Better pic today....caught the light and really showed off the colour metallic finish. Pity my son's wagon parked behind me, lol.
And people ask me why I don't run a rear spoiler.........sheesh, lol. Damn, these are a pretty design!
