I would like to know if anyone has used the new repo headlight bezels/surrounds? I'm referring to the plastic piece that the rubber cushion fits into that surrounds the headlights on each side of the 69 Firebirds. If you have, have you had any fitment issues, and do you have the originals (even if they are broken) to compare to the new repo ones to see if they are made the same?
My car is in the process of getting painted, and my body guy is telling me that there is no way these repos are going to work. If you get them lined up with the fender lines on the side then they don't line up with the top, and vise versa. Need help!

I bought a set and test fit them and they seemed to fit all around. My car is also at the paint shop and not finished yet.

The metal framing that the rubber cushion fits over is probably bent. Try to bend it some and test fit the cushion, keep bending and test fitting the cushion until it fits right. Then take it all apart and put the plastic on and re-mount the assembly. You may need big hammers and large pry bars.

I bought a set from PY and I believe it was the first repro part that ever fit right with NO: tweaking, sanding, filling, nibbling, cutting, chisling, or drilling. I scuffed, primed and painted.

Sometimes there is possibility that a new batch of stock has been brought in.
new batches aren't always equal to previous batches. Just saying that " might " could be a possibility. i have a spare loose original set i could probably take some pics of - if that would help somehow. |

Not sure if it would help or not, but it couldn't hurt. Thanks Baron

Baron,
Did you ever get a chance to take those pictures of the headlight bezels?

Could someone please take a distance measurement of the fender lines, (on the bezel), from the one on the top corner of the bezel to the one on the side of it. These are the lines that are continuations of the fender lines. Pictures of the bezel would also be appreciated, preferably that are on the car and line up with the fender.

Going through this right now. ( well yesterday). mine will not fit if the rubber is not in there for aligning the front surrounds. I have figured about a 1/8-1/4" gap without the rubbers. Once I put the rubber piece in, they align better. Because I am presently fighting the headlight surrounds, I tried putting the old ones that are not painted back on and the fit was the exact same telling me it is my alignment methods not the surrounds. My biggest fit issue is that I cannot get them high enough or back far enough at the same time. it is either one or the other. I had to walk away and give myself a break. Hopefully will get some progress this week.

Must be a nationwide plauge! I'm wrapping mine up. For now, I'll just say that the nose is an easy install, and it pretty much falls into place. The time consuming part is understanding how it bolts together, and how to install on the car. Why doesn't anyone else post pictures of their nose? |

Nice to hear that this issue is not unique to me! I guess Pontiac didn't make everything easy on these 69's...

odd thing is they thought the 67-8 design too complex and changed it to the 69 design.
Whoops did it again.....
