Hi guys, here's a car I've known about for 30+ years. The owner wants to sell it to me so I have a companion for my red '62. It's a 348HP, Tripower, 4 speed, 8-lug, Power Brakes and Power Steering car. I have the PHS on it. Car is complete (he has the front end stored away), but needs a lot of work. Sheet metal is pretty good, a bit of surface rust on the rear fenders towards the front. Original motor is gone, so is the trans. Owner has all the other parts though and will throw in a good engine and a Muncie 4-speed. Can you help me determine a value? Both he and I aren't sure what it's worth. Thanks!

Hey Jason!

Nice find! That car looks like it hasn't been moved in quite some time. You say it's missing the motor and trans, but is complete. Does that include the console? You said it's got the 8 lugs also. I might bump up the price with that stuff. Just as parts, the 8 lugs and console are worth some green, not to mention any other goodies that may be salvageable, so I'd bump the estimate up some to maybe 4-5K? Sure...It's gonna need a fair amount of work, but You've got a fairly rare ride there. I don't know how many 4 speed 425A 62 GP's there are out there, but it can't be a lot.

Looks like a great project and companion to your other GP. I think I rcall you mentioning in the past that the next one is going to be the hot rod, so this could be it? Great way to get started! Hope it works out for you. Keep us posted and of course, more pics!

Looks pretty good in the pictures. I think someone posted a link to a 425A engine for sale recently, but it wouldn't be 'numbers matching' so you may as well go with the engine he has if it's in good shape. I believe Tom S. has been using Muncies in some of his cars, hopefully he can chime in on what it takes to install one.

The 4 speed is just a iron case T-10.The car IMO is a rare car.Wont be cheap to restore.425A engines are still out there.I think that car restored with a 425A engine is worth in the 30-35K range so just work backwards and that should help establish some value.There was a engine on ebay for something like $3500 or so.Interiors are easy now,consols are around.Tom

4-5k would be reasonable in my mind, As noted it is a rare car but very expensive to restore. If it were closer to NC I would be interested.

Thanks for your input everyone! Yes, '63 HT next to it, older Trans Am and I think a 60convertible as well? He has a few more barns full of old Ponchos as well. This is a good friend of mine and my "Pontiac Guru" growing up (I'm 37 and he's 72). Yes, all the parts are there except the original motor and trans. He pulled the console, front fenders and other items so no one would steal them! I've been tracking down a few 425A motors since Jan and they are out there. Correct Date Code motor for this car is $5,000and that's just for a good complete core! This car is beyond my budget, but I could start humble and work my way up. Kevin, you're right. Would love to build the evil twin (Black,421,4spd) to my car (Red, 389, Auto)! If I could have ordered a new car in 1962 this is exactly how I would have done it. I was thinking 4-5K myself, but hoping it does fall more into the $2K range since it is my friend and will cost a small fortune (to me anyway) to restore. I'd love to have it, put it back together mechanically (leave the Patina) and go terrorize the local Import kids while I save up the money for a full resto.
If I can't swing it, I will help him find it a good home...starting here. Jason

I cant believe stuff like this exist. This opportunity will never be available to you again please buy the car, or it will haunt you when somebody else gets it. Everybody has there "I should've bought that car story". Don't let this be yours. Car looks like a great start and if its partially taken apart that just saves you some time. you also have a complete car to help guide you during the restoration. If you need any help please let me know. BTW I'm totally jealous and add me to the list of people who would buy it.
P.S. does that 63 have Bonneville front fenders on a catalina?

I agree - buy it if you can - $ 4-5K would be good IMO. I bought my '64 4spd convertible (bench seat) 7 years ago (but it was complete and not a '62 for same price range). It didn't run, no brakes, tranny frozen, hadn't run in 37 years. Snyder still gets inquiries on my car today asking if it's for sale. I've worked on it since - just a bit here and there, but I drive it, have fun with it, and love it. You'll have no regrets - and Matt (engine ear) would be your best on '62 $$$ & knowledge.

Thanks everyone, yes the plan is to GO FOR IT! Just curious what everyone here thought as far as $$$. I've never really focused on the value of project cars, only complete ones. My friend is going to air up the tires, drag it back to his farm so we can get a good look underneath at the frame etc. I forgot to mention this is the same family friend that sold my '62 to my dad way back in 1984. Same condition mine was in also. My Mom, Dad and I restored the first one, might as well do them both, hey? My car used to sit right beside it in the same barn...too cool! I also thought about the advantage of having my car to reference while restoring another one...
On a side note, just went for dinner and movie with the wife and kids in our '62. I just love this time of year! Windows down, arms out, radio up. Hope your all doing the same.

Yes, I'm sure it is. He still has a few '63 cars if I remember correctly. A nice driver GP, the one in the barn and another '63 Cat that he wants to put his remaining Super Duty motor in.
At one time, he had a Swiss Cheese 63' Cat sitting in there. Bill Blair bought that one and restored it back in the 80s.
