71 TA pilot bearing
Hi,
Just posting to see if anyone knows where I can get a pilot bearing approx 1.5 " in diameter for my 71 TA. It has a 71 455 HO and a 71 TA m-22. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Be Well, RC |

Thanks guys, but we've tried Napa, Advance, etc.
Even PY, Ames, etc. As well as inside contacts at GM. Part number shows as no longer valid. I'll give the industrial bearing shops a try, but if anyone has an extra, I'll pay as you deem necessary. Be WEll, RC |

You may have already tried this...but NAPA has what you need. If you just let the guys use their computer to look up your part it quite possibly will never show up..they have books full of bearings.. if you look in that book, you should find the correct sized pilot bearing.. I put a LS1 new crate engine in a 73 Landcruiser a couple years ago ..mated it to the original Toyota transmission. Went round and round to find the correct pilot bearing.. Ended up being from a tractor, but was the correct size..have put over 10K miles on LC with no trouble. You will have to sit in NAPA and look through their books, but they have access to your part....

2many... if Norwood found 2 sources with a quick net search...I am guessing it is easily available..sort of what I bet most who read your post initially thought..I am sure AMEs offers it as well.here I looked it up...
Ames part number # FR696AF OR FR696AK in the transmission clutch section of their catalogue..it is not in the index in the rear of the catalogue..so it is not "searchable".. I did search the part number and a part came up as available on Ames' website.... You will get pissed at me for asking.......,but did you really look hard before asking this board to help you?? seems it was a little too easy for us to find what seems like an easy part.. |

Hi Guys,
My mechanic who is "in" with all the parts stores in town has made many calls, and received numerous incorrrectly outer sized diameter parts. Even has GM contacts who say part number no longer valid. So, I turned to the experts. Sorry if anyone feels I 'm lazy, or wasted your time. I sincerely appreciate you help every time I ask. Be Well, RC |

Just trying to help in my own way, I enjoy it. Of course the GM part is obsolete it hasn't been used since 1979 or so. Maybe just maybe someone reamed out the back of your crank to an oversize. The original is readily available as I have shown, so if it doesn't fit....You need to get an accurate dimension for the hole and match it up with an existing bearing. Again not all that difficult. None of us here have access to your car, but your mechanic has and should be able to handle this. If not I would find a new one because what you have is a parts changer not a mechanic. If I was in the area I would come over and figure it out for you but I'm not...Will maybe you could help ..

The web link y'all gave me look good, just not what my mechanic has been receiving.
So we're hopeful this may be the ticket. If my crank has been altered, we've already lined up a metal fabricator for a custom one. Thanks again for your help. Peace Out! RC |

I just noticed in the auction description that metric dimensions are listed,........hopefully the fraction dimensions weren't changed, just converted....
SHOULD still be a fractional (SAE) bearing as the P/N is the same as I've used before... Let us know if/how it fits....

BCA, Timkin, and all the others list the bearing as 7109. The bearing that 2many lists has a bit more depth and would work as well as the outer and inner demmensions are the same. #7109 0.591 15, 1.378 35, 0.354 9, BALL page 98 http://www.timken.com/en-us/products...tion_Guide.pdf |

Seems that they want ALOT more $$$ for the 7109 on ebay....like between $20 & 35.00...Is that just because they know what it does?
