Default Another T/A project..

A few months back I posted up in theT/A's wanted section that I was looking for a white '70-'72 T/A. I got a few pm's but ended up buying the '72 that I had been chasing for 4 years. Anyway, Kirk (scorpio ps ) from here contacted me about a few cars he had. I ended up buying all 3 cars he had. The first one was a '70 Judge then a '69 Hurst Olds and finally his 70.5 T/A. A friend of mine wanted the Olds, so I sold it to him. The T/A showed up this past Friday. It's a very nice car, not as perfect as my '73 or the '72 now, but very very nice. I know I'm going to catch hell from a few of you but I have decided to turn this car into a full pro-touring car. I have always wanted to turn a T/A into a semi-track car and I think this is the perfect candidate. I race a Porsche and a F430 Challenge car but have always wanted to have a T/A to run some DE's with. My plans are to do a complete DSE 4 link rear, DSE subframe up front, 6 piston brakes, 6 speed, cage, change the interior to black and a LSX motor. Eric@ Griffith's metal shaping, he just finished my '71 LS7 Camaro, is finishing up on my '72 now, then we will make a plan. He has some other projects to get done, so it will be a few months til I can get started. For now, I just put installed some QA1's, DSE rear springs and 17" ralleys. I will start a build thread when we get going. Yes, it is a numbers matching JW wheel car..

I briefly thought about doing this with my numbers TA, but didn’t quite have the stomach for it. Will be using the Formula in my signature instead. In fact, I just ordered my DSE parts (subframe, minitub kit, and quadralink rear suspension, etc.) last week. I've also committed to an Allpontiac aluminum motor (most likely 505ci) and Ford 9” rear. Have not decided on a transmission yet, though will be keeping a stick. Look forward to your thread.

Very nice, here is the '71 Eric just finished, it's too nice to drive Everything DSE had to offer and a 675hp LS7 dry sump motor..

WOW! Thats a stunning '70! While I couldn't bring myself to pro-tour it, I understand your desire to. I've always admired your cars. I really dig the '78 with all the Macho stuff on it.

I'm all about doing what you want with your car, and mine will never see the TA Nats,
but it would be a shame to separate numbers matching components.

Very cool either way.

I like it!! Break out the wrenches!!

Plenty of carpet cruisers out there vs high quality PT cars. Build it your way and have fun.

I would stick the drivetrain under a bench just to have though. You have it, why can it. Its only worth $ to the original car/owner, otherwise its just a high compression 400.

It'll be something special indeed bud congrats...

You interested in a Composite body panel kit that offers you a "Candy Blue" stripe over real aluminum (dusted/coated) Carbon material... Effectively a "Candy Blue Carbon stripe" that that pays homage to the original design, yet remains distinct with it's own depth and complexities. Food for thought....

I think your right, I might just keep everything, including the JW wheels, thanks!

I bought it from the 2nd or 3rd owner who bought it as a running/driving car in the early 80's........
He immediately dismantled it completely.....and started paying the wrong people to work on it....

It was a painted "partial basket case" when I got....made it roll and steer... then stopped working on it...looked like some BAD bodywork under the fresh paint...

Got going on another project & then it sat....I sold to to the fellow that restored it in 04/05.

It was actually a pretty solid car that really didn't NEED to be taken all apart.

As I recall, block heads M21,12 bolt, carb,JW's, dist. & alternator were ALL original to the car...

Even the Spacesaver Spare is original to the car,I believe.

Isn't your green '73 already set up that way? Why break up the '70 to more or less "clone" the '73?

Car looks great!
