I am a halfway decent guitar player and got into the normal stuff, Hendrix, Zeppelin, SRV, Skynyrd, and also the shred/metal guys like George Lynch, Randy Rhodes, Van Halen. Huge Rush fan too.

Anyway, lately been checking out some very diffferent stuff, Ricky Skaggs, Roy Clark, Jerry Reed, Buck Owens et al. Any other metalhead types out there learning to appreciate how awesome some of these country pickers are? As cheesy as some of his stuff is, Brad Paisley can freaking lay it down too!

X2. I'm not a country music fan, more of a metal head too. But my ole lady drug me to a Brad Paisley concert a couple years ago and he can tear it up live. Way different than his studio stuff! I play guitar too and I finally got an acoustic and lately I been picking it up over the electric. I guess that's the trend when we get older.

I am the opposite, as I have always played acoustic, I own an electric but it is just for decoration. (just a self taught amateur but I can play a ton of that good ol' 3 chord country!)

Some very cool videos posted in this thread, thanks guys. Kind of funny how you get into a rut sometimes listening to the same thing but then communicating with other people can put you in touch with some cool stuff you either never heard of or had just about forgotten.

It isn’t that I have started to gain an appreciation; it’s I have always had an appreciation. I’m not going into what appreciation I’m mentioning (it would spoil the fun) other than around 1973, there was a change in that music genre.

Amazingly, I do not like 50’s rock & roll, and I like it less now than I did when I was younger. But starting with bubble-gum rock era through the hair-band/heavy metal era, I liked it all. But it ended with the dawn of grunge. If I had to assign a label to myself, it would be hair-band/heavy metal genre. Look back at the music video post, and scroll back at my posts.

I wanted to point that out because people who have become used to seeing who is behind my usual video links will be surprised. On one hand, it may be off topic because there is no picking. On the other hand, it’s dead on topic because it involves another metal-man who goes down other musical paths.

This has been one of my favorite songs before I knew I had favorite songs. The thing is that as race toward the west gate, the song strikes me much differently now, then when I was a little kid, unable to fathom the to-be Black Sabbath.

I can't get interested in Roy Clark or Buck Owens. Reed and Skaggs, yes I could.
