How is it a survivor if the car was repainted?
"This car had a repaint some 20+ years ago & it is not the correct Vedero Green!!"

Well ...
I just dropped off a 68' Caprice Wagon with a factory 427 ....
One of less than 30 made, it had touch up paint and wood vinyl trim It is considered by the new owner as a survivor ..... Guess it matters who you ask .... Jim

Survivor to people now means the body has never been off the frame.
It's a term that's misused almost as much as rare!

The car in question here, needs a restoration just based on the ugly shade of green. |

Cool wagon. I had a neighbor that had one. He was the original owner (car had no options) along with a 72 Malibu (no options there either). The wagon was his daily driver until he died around 2001. Pretty sure his wife went first. The family had a huge garage sale and sold all his stuff along the with VERY rusty 68 wagon. Im sure whom ever bought it took the motor out and junked the hulk as it was that bad. The 72 went to the neighbor across the street.

Well beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I'm diggn' that color. It looks kinda like it could be Pepper Green from 1970. And a rare 3-speed to boot. Neat car. |

Geez, by that standard, my car's a survivor! (without the stock engine, transmission, driveshaft, rear end, wheels, brakes, trunk floor, gas tank... Well, you see where I'm going with this.

It's just like guy that says it has a rebuilt engine because it has new gaskets and the it's got the engine nicely painted. Too many car terms are misused. |

SURVIVOR® As the name implies, Corvettes that have never been restored have ‘survived’ intentional or unintentional loss of original markings, paint or components. Corvettes remaining over 50% unrestored or unmodified may qualify for this award if they remain in a condition that would serve well as an historic guide for others who want to restore a Corvette of that vintage and type. This award is designed to recognize those Corvettes that are “Worn in, but not worn out.” A Survivor Corvette is significantly unrestored, unrepaired, or unmodified and useful as a historic reference. It is a Corvette who in the best interest of research should not be restored or improved. Again, as with Certification, the cars are judged against a factory standard and not against one another. The technical portion of the judging is eliminated and instead the Corvettes must complete a 40 mile road test under their own power in an established time frame. Survivors must pass at least 3 of the 4 categories of exterior, interior, engine/compartment and chassis. Since the advent of this award, there is now a reason for further preservation of Corvettes whose histories and character may have otherwise been lost. Survivor judging also offers 5 specialty awards: highest mileage, lowest mileage, best documentation, best ‘War Story’ and best photo album /scrapbook of the car. Survivor judging is fun and the Survivor Corvettes become a member of an elite group of historically significant cars. Survivor Corvettes are the Corvettes judges and restorers seek out to study. |
