Replaced throttle cable on my 68 gto because the old one was not getting the carb to open fully when pedal is depressed to the floor. I am having same problem with the new one however. How do you adjust? looks like no adjustment at carb. Is it at the pedal? The motor is a 72 with a quadrajet. Intake is a stock I think 68 with part number 485912 not sure on carb. Just feels like pedal movement is not enough to open up the carb. Could I and will it work if I bend the pedal rods? could they be bent?

Most likely the pedal rod is bent. They are pretty soft. I actually welded a rod across mine to keep it from bending.

For those that have a 68 GTO do your set up of the cable look like mine at the carb ? Just want to be sure everything is correct at the carb before bending the rods at the pedal, doug

Here's what mine looks like. Fairly certain it's opening the throttle all the way. At least it was the last time I checked.

Thanks for that picture. I think I have a bent bracket. I only have one inch for movement from the end of the sleeve to the bracket and based on your picture you have close to two inches. I think PO at some point bent this bracket. Ames has it 45 dollars. Thanks for help and I will get back to all when I have it installed.Doug

Seems weird the bracket could be bent forward that much, it's pretty solid. I can't tell if it's just the angle of the pics, but it does look like the bracket goes a little more forward on yours than it does on mine (I'm looking at the 5 casting on the runner). 485912 is a '72 intake I believe. My '68 intake is 9794234. How about the mounting point on the Q-Jet? Is that any different than a '68 carb?

Wow just when you think you might be on to something. You are correct. It looks like I have the 72 intake. Where you show six inches on your ruler I am only five. Anyone who has a 72 I think will tell us they have a completely different set up (this was used from 68 to 71). Now I am lost .I think I need to get one inch either out of the cable or somehow move that bracket back one inch if it is not bent. I did not do this swap so I have no idea what they did 20 years ago. I want to thank those who have tried to help me and if anyone has any ideas please chime in. I will take some more pictures tomorrow to compare to yours.. Thanks again Doug

For what it's worth, the PY catalog lists the '72 throttle cable as a one year only piece (PYE57). Otherwise there's one for '68-'71 (GME127R). Something must have changed in '72.

Want to thanks those that help. It was a bent pedal rod. Something that I am told happen a lot with the 68 and 69. Might want to check yours. to make sure you get a full pedal. They do not make this so you have to buy a used one. Just for info Dynacorn and ebay do list these but they are not correct,not even close. Doug
