While you guys are starting to put your cars away for Winter we are now waking ours up from hibernation for our Summer. Went to one of the first show for this season. It was a fairly small event but there were some nice cars there. Here are some photos I took of some of the Aussie cars amongst some stuff from the USA. Have a look.


Local built Ford Falcon GT (1970ish)

You guys would probably know what this is (early 50s chev???????)


Slightly lowered


1973 Holden Torana. Was a favourite car to be modified. They loved shoe horning V8 in this 6 cylinder car


Falcon Coupe. I like the simple lines in these bodies

In person these rear quarters remind me of the 70s GTO. A bit anyway

Really nice cars. Thanks for posting up the pics. I was surprised to see the Mark 1 Ford Escort, didnt know ye had them down under. Very common car round these parts at one time, my first car was a Mark 2.

Yep, had a lot of English cars sold here.
Mid 60s to early 70 Cortinas were popular cars that were hot rodded with 351 clevelands and top loaders.
Same goes for the Ford Capri.
Our earlier Toranas (late 60s) were basically Vauxhal Vivas.

That's correct we are effectively 180deg apart.
While we are shivering you guys are cruising and vice versa.
So it's our turn now to enjoy.

Not so much in the South and Southwest USA my friend...we are now beginning to enjoy the cooler temps of the fall and will enjoy our "winter" here in Houston that is a nice equivalent the average northern US Summer...only longer in duration.

So, we're more in synch with you than you might believe.

Ex: This past weekend was a perfect "chamber of commerce" weather wise...with many more to come from now through May.

What kind of fuel are most of those Blower equipped cars running, and what's the approximate cost per Gallon / Litre?

Those are some thirsty beasts - yes?

I honestly don't know what fuel they use. Next car show I will ask. I know they don't go overboard on charge amount. That's why they are still streetable. Have been told "Mad Sam" drives his GT all over the place.

No problems. I like to show you Gals & Guys some of the Aussie cars that we have here amongst the stuff from USA that makes its way Down Under
The camera I use is just a point and shoot compact Panasonic Lumix DMC ZS8. 99% of the time I just leave it in auto mode and let it do its thing.

What is it with 4 door "muscle cars" in Australia? You don't really see that in the US.

Traditionally, the market here was very small for coupes. Its expensive to build a body style for a small market...they did for some models, but not all.

The most famous Aussie musclecar is a sedan....1971 GTHO Phase III
Worlds fastest production sedan 1971.....genuine 140+ mph off the show room floor.



This pic was taken on a magazine test drive in country Australia in 1971.....if you look close, you can see the tach on the red line and the speedometer past the 140mph mark. These cars were built specifically to run long distance endurance races.

What most US do not realize (I didn't) is that the Mustang was only available for a limited time in Australia...although the same platform Falcon was plentiful.

Just read in new Hemmings Muscle Machines, November 2013, that the new Mustang platform has been confirmed for Australia.
