Good news bad news kind of a thing........ I guess. Heres the deal. I tell my wife i am going to look at a car and may buy it. I take cash with me, tell her about it, show her the cash, all is good. I go to look at the car and it was overall nice and had a lot of things going for it and a few things agaist, so I worked out a deal with the seller and purchased the car. Tell my wife and she gets upset. Not real upset, but says that the deal is that I can only have one car at a time..............and she is serious about that!!!!.......so now what? Would be hard to sell a car that is in pieces and I just got this cool longtop. What the he!! am I going to do now?

You may have seen my current build of the 65 Ventura 4 spd car, but here is this one.

66 Catalina 421!!!!!!!!! White with Black vinyl top!!!!!!!!! Disc Braks and Steering already upgraded!!!!!!!! Odd but nice, the interior was swapped with a bonneville and has the rear seat. Power front bench, AC (kind of) headrests, split middle seat, HEI done, was changed to a quadrajet and is just a kick a$$ darksider.

Paint is fair condition, some rust on the left rear, panel alignment and some details need to be taken care of, but overall a solid ride. I just drove it 210 miles from where i purchase it with no issues at all. lights worked at night as they should and the car was a dream to drive, just aligned. All the AC was just replaced with new parts, but has not been wired up yet, came with some parts including the mldg that is missing in the pics below.

I don't know what to do.................Seriously what am I going to do and the answer can not be keep them both per the Boss.

BTW, a wife is not the boss in a relationship unless you let her be the boss. Marriage is a 50/50 deal, not 75/25.

Being a lover of wagons, I say keep it. Put it in storage somewhere if you think you have to. Stand up for yourself I say. If she loves you she gets it. We need our cars!

If not, just sell it now before you get attached. Stick to your project car and stop looking at other cars!

I'd put it in storage for the winter. It's hard to sell a car in MN before spring. Must be someone around that has some outbuilding storage in SE MN.

I don't have a boat and I don't golf. The car hobby is a good clean hobby with a lot of nice people in it, are some of the lines that I use, some more successfully than others.

Don't let her read the PY board.

Yea, not a bad problem to figure out. I have an uncle close by that may have storage. I need to speak with him about that. I guess if anyone would give me $7000 for either one, I would end of selling the wagon or the Ventura. I am going to take a few days to clean up the wagon, it has was in the guys garage and is dirty, did not even clean it for sale, had some wires hanging down from the temp and oil gauges and the aftermarket radio he had put in. Either way, the drive back was great and I already took it out to get breakfast this morning.

I like it. Keep both if you can, but if not, finish the Ventura, put the wagon in storage over the winter. In the mean time, go through the wagon and tie up any loose ends and drive it a bit. Make your decision in the spring.

I agree with having a hard time selling right before the snow falls. If it isn't insured and sucking gas every day, is it really costing you anything to keep around? That was always my argument. Having a car you can actually drive that doesn't need work does wonders for motivating the restoration of the other...

You can always go for the "I'll sell one of them" and not give her a drop dead date. But seriously consider selling one or the other. Personally I'd keep the wagon ;-)

Tell her you got it to flip it and put it on craigslist for 4X what you paid for it.

if it doesn't sell your trying, if it does you made a big profit.

Me I would put a trailer hitch on it and go buy a 66 Airstream Safari.

I love those wagons (My high school girlfriend 40 years ago had a '66 Bonneville wagon with a 421 and just about every other option available, it was a fun car), but considering the work you've already done to the hardtop (and it is a factory 4 speed car, correct?) it would be the one to keep if you have to make a choice.

I know you want to keep her happy but you didn't say you had strings attached to it when you went to buy it so way now are there strings attached to it. Is she just pushing her weight around?? I think you should stand up to her she will soften up in awhile but you may have a few sleepless nights before but it's a great car don't let it go. We only have a few things we can say is ours in a marriage so stick to it & keep the car. You know for sure that everything else in the house is hers & was her idea to buy so you have a right to a few things of your own too. I'm sure it's just her way of keeping her thumb on you & keeping her control in the marriage. As was stated before marriage is 50/50 & there was nothing said about you having to sell one of the cars before you bought it, is she jelious of the cars, afriad some of your time is without her??? Keep the cars she won't go anywhere & if she does she was is ready to go before & is just using it as a excuse to leave. You have a right to have some fun in your life to & being an adult you have the right to be able to make up your own mind as to what your going to buy, did it put you in the poorhouse to buy it? Do you work? did she pay for it?? Be a man & keep it . It's just a car & no reason to be in a power struggle in your marriage to be able to keep it if it's not causeing any money problems.

She has been more that great about what I do and how I do it. She has good points on why I should not have purchased this one, but agree that she gave me the ok up front. I even showed her the cash that I took out of the bank. I have done this several times, but the cars turned out to be crap and I did not buy them, she even said the same thing and did not think I would end up buying it and when I came home with it she was more surprised than anything. She just did not want to tell me no up front and I can appreciate that, but got me into a pickle here.

We set rules about a lot of things and has worked great for us and it is a give and take. That being said, she actually sticks to them, I don't all the time . I get her points on it, garage space, using money from our household account vs my car account and a few other things so I understand where she is comming from. Not that I agree with her changing her mind after giving permission, but I can understand.

I am sure I can figure this out..........

Couldn't have said it better, NOW tell her you are going to buy a THIRD ultra rare CAR for 10 TIMES as much as the wagon, she will be so upset that when you concede that there won't be a third car and let her win that battle she will forget about the wagon!!
