I just picked up a set of stock 17" Chevy truck rims to replace the old corroded chrome rims on the wife's truck.
Now for tires-who has the best online prices? BTW,I have always found Tire Rack to be more expensive in the past.

Ouch,I guess I need a new strategy. After looking around online, shipping truck tires can be up to $160 when ordering online at some places. The car tires I've had shipped cheap enough to still be a better deal than buying local.
I called my local Farm and Fleet and they have a special starting this weekend of buy 3 tires get the 4th one free. Plus the rebate offer on the tires I'm looking at,and it's a pretty good deal. Way cheaper than anything I found online.

I too, recently bought some truck tires. I checked Tire Rack 1st. After the freight was added in from Tire Rack, they would have cost a lot more than local. Plus, the guys who mount, balance, and install these tires will sometimes charge less if you buy the tires from them. So, you have to figure the TOTAL bottom line price.

I saved about $500 from these guys on Michelins for my Tahoe. No shipping and helped me pick the installer plus had them the same day.

If everyone else finds Tire Rack more expensive than buying local, I'm in the minority.
I've bought sets of tires 5 times the past 5-6 years for different vehicles. Everything from heavy 275/60 -17" Michelins for the Expedition, to 15" Radial T/A's, and each time I priced several local tires sellers and ended up saving considerably by getting them through Tire Rack. I get any tire I bring in mounted and balanced for $10 a piece at a local shop. No disposal fees, no taxes, no valve stem fees, weight fees. Try that at Sears. |

In the past tire rack was cheaper than buying local, but I always found better deals at different online sellers. 10% or so cheaper,if I shopped around.

I have never checked a ford dealer, they advertise they'll beat anyone's prices on tires and you have to think they do buy more tires than probably anyone than GM so they probably get rock bottom prices. Wouldn't hurt to get your best price and give your local ford dealer a call just to see.
Come to think of it last time I had my GTO in for warranty work at the buick, gmc, and formerly Pontiac dealership they also told me they'd beat anyone's tire prices as at that time it was in for front end warranty work and the tire's were shot, and of course the tech noted that on the order and the service manager told me she'd do better than anyone else's price on tires. I didn't go back though because Discount Tire gave me some allowance on the tires I bought from them previously due to a cord coming out of the tread. |

Yup,that's where I got lucky. One of my friends owns a shop in my town,so he will mount and balance my tires for free,a 12 pack,or $20,depending on his mood.

I've used Discount several times for the truck tires.
Saved $$ even with the shipping. Couldn't find any local dealer who could/would match. http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/home.do

OK,got them today. I did not order online as I still found a better deal local. This is a first for me.
I was looking at,and bought,The Cooper Discoverer H/T size 265/70/17. Total.$523.47 This includes balancing, mounting, new valve stems, and tax. Then you take off $60 for the rebate, that total is $463.47,or $115.86 per tire, everything included. Not too bad IMO.

Sounds like a good deal! I wish my truck had 17" wheels. Seems like tire prices are nearly double for 18" wheels!

I suppose that depending on where you live and such that one would find a deal better than tire rack but as one that filled out the form in car and driver and sent a MO back in 82 to them.....
I bought my last set from them this year. Much easier now. ![]() ![]()
